Arthur James Odle

Arthur James Odle, 82, died October 8, 2023, with his family by his side in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Odle was born March 15, 1941 in Sugar Tree, Tennessee, to Arthur and Stella (Shannon) Odle.

A veteran, Mr. Odle served in the US Army and was deployed to Korea in 1961. Upon completion of his service, he relocated to Eau Gallie, FL with his young family. While he worked at the Kennedy Space Center as a computer programmer, he also attended college at Brevard Community College and the Florida Technical Institute. He finished his graduate education at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, where he earned his master's degree in systems management and subsequent certified public accountancy (CPA) licensure. He held many professional positions during his long career including jobs with the Department of Treasury and the Defense Intelligence Agency. When he moved to Montgomery, he opened his private CPA practice and taught mathematics as an adjunct professor at Troy State University. He loved numbers; technology and space; teaching math; strong coffee; small animals (especially his dog, Cuervo); crossword puzzles; and cooking for his family and friends.

Mr. Odle is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Lightfoot; brother, Herbert Odle; sister, Dolores Ruff; 3 daughters and their spouses, Jamie and Bonner Johnson, Rachel and Craig Iversen, Jenny and Jim Madden; 4 stepchildren and their spouses, Jack Haught (Jodie), Jennifer Edwards (Jeff), Raenna Elliott and Ryan Jazo; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Ruff; sisters, Marion Reynolds, Corinne (Renie) Butler, Jean Jordan and Glenda Ruff.

Visitation and Burial will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

Visitation will be at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home in Camden, TN.

Times: Family, 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM; Public, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Internment will take place immediately after the visitation where a graveside service will be held at the Wesson Chapel Sugar Tree Cemetery, Sugar Tree, TN at 1 PM with the Rev. Deacon Rachel Shannon (Odle) Iversen presiding.

Pallbearers: Grandsons: Michael Finn, Philip Iversen, Bill Elliott, James Madden, Chris Iversen; Jim Madden (son-in-law)

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society or the charity of one’s choice.
